The Hyundai lineup deserves a closer look for drivers who want the perfect combination of style, modern features, and value in a new car. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra and the 2022 Hyundai Sonata both have extraordinary appeal to today’s car buyers. While these models are close siblings in the Hyundai lineup, they have exciting differences. What should you know about the Elantra and the Sonata before making your next new car purchase?

The differences between the 2022 Elantra and the 2022 Sonata are noticeable when taking the models out for a test drive comparison at Suburban Hyundai. The 2022 Elantra is offered with a 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission across most trim levels. The new N Line trim level pairs a 201-horsepower, turbo 1.6-liter engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. A 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain that delivers 139 horsepower is also available. The Sonata is also offered two gas engines and a hybrid powertrain system. The base engine is a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed auto transmission. A turbo 2.5-liter, 290-horsepower engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is also available.

The Elantra is a compact car with an undeniably athletic look. It boasts a large, wraparound grille with triangular headlights. These headlights are topped by a single LED light bar. While the hood is curved and smooth, the sides show a triangular accent design that gives the Elantra its edgy personality. The Sonata is a midsize car with sporty, sophisticated appeal. Its hexagonal grille has a black finish, detached from the geometric LED headlights. The hood and roof are perfectly curved, and the hood has a series of cascading accent lines. The sides are beautifully styled with horizontal accents.

The Sonata sits higher in the 2022 Hyundai lineup, so you can rightfully expect it to have a few extra unavailable or optional features in the Elantra. However, both models are impressively appointed. In fact, in some or all trims, both models have memory settings for the driver’s seat and mirrors, heated mirrors, heated seats, rear parking sensors, leather material, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice recognition, parking sensors, an auto climate control system and more.
